Monday, September 25, 2006 Another Excellent Crieff Restaurant
Crieff really is coming right up to date with the quality of dining available in the town. It's largely the appeal of the town with tourists that can keep so many restaurants open per head of population.
Saturday night saw me invited to dinner at a restaurant called Passion on West High Street in Crieff (almost opposite my favourite Crieff Restaurant - the Red Onion Bistro). It was a good sign that the place was full and we had the last table. The place has a strange mix of ultra modern dining and oak panelled walls from a previous incarnation of a tearoom on the same site. Service was quick and the staff were very helpful. The waiting staff kept an eye on our drinks to make sure we were topped up and wanted for nothing. Quality of the food was the other key point. In this regard, Passion showed their... er Passion. Three out of our party of four opted for the burgers which were extremely well made and cooked just as we ordered and were truly delicious along with the hand-cut chips. One of us had the vegetarian pasta option which was fantastic. The menu was simple and uncluttered boasting simple food, well presented and well priced. I don't often do restaurant reviews on this blog so you know when I do I either loved or hated the place. In this case I will definitely be back. UPDATE: Passion is gone now and in it's place is No. 24 - I've had lunch there once and really enjoyed it. There's a new Crieff restaurant opening spring 2008 called Yann's at Glenearn House - Yannick Grospellier is a very accomplished chef and we look forward to dining there. www.yannsatglenearnhouse.com For lunches and snacks through the day, Delivino at the top of King St is a wonderful place to stop. With a friendly family atmosphere, great food and drinks it is a very welcome addition to Crieff's restaurant scene. Wednesday, September 13, 2006 Last Minute Cottages in Scotland
Came across a site showing last minute cottages in Scotland. They seem to have a good number of cottages even when booking just a week or two ahead.

Tuesday, September 12, 2006 Fife to Edinburgh Hovercraft Ferry
Edinburgh Evening News is reporting a trial of a hovercraft running for commuters and tourists between Kirkcaldy and Portobello. Sounds like a good idea to me, except that none of the other attempted ferry services across the Firth of Forth in the last few years have managed to keep going. What's really funny are the comments after the article as the Edinburgers and Fifers go at it over the viability and indeed requirement for such a project.
