Monday, December 05, 2005 Sunday Lunch in Elie at the Ship Inn
In december in Scotland, daylight is at a premium. Long car journeys are almost pointless because by the time you get to your destination the sun has set and it's time to go home.
Yesterdays sunday outing took us to the lovely holiday and fishing village of Elie on the East Neuk of Fife. It's just over an hour's drive from home for us. In particular we had booked a table at the Ship Inn - a little pub/restaurant that has quite a reputation. It's a busy enough place on a sunday that bookings are advisable. Great fish and chips and a really pleasant family atmosphere and despite us being late, our table was held for us. Our one year old was served with a half portion of fish and chips that still would have been an acceptable adult portion from many fish and chip shops. After lunch the tide was in so a beach walk was not advisable, so we walked over to the lighthouse and the folly on the point. Great views from over there over to the Isle of May and across the Firth of Forth. The only negative point in the day was the amount of dog mess lying around. Clearly some people in Elie don't care that it's the law to pick up after your dog now. Maybe they think it's ok for tourists to have to clean filthy dog mess off their baby's pram after a visit to Elie. Ignorant dog owners annoy me. |
