Thursday, August 12, 2004 Where has the summer gone?
My goodness, you turn around and the summer is gone. It still feels warm, but the 4 inches of rain in the last 72 hours along with the darkness coming in around 9-ish gets me feeling all autumnal. The football season's started and Scottish schools go back right about now.
Can't quite be autumn yet though, the midge's are still out and the streets of Crieff are heaving with bus trippers. Some days it takes me an hour just to drive up the high street. Anyway, nice to see that Glasgow Airport handled a million travellers last month. That's a lot of touchy-feely customer service if you ask me. I prefer not to be handled in an airport, and please put those latex gloves away. The airport did not say whether those million people were desperate to leave the country or coming here voluntarily. I'd like to think all the new North America routes are bringing US and Canadian visitors directly to Scotland rather than palming them off to the rather downbeat and second rate city of London. Also, it may have escaped your notice, but it's festival time in Edinburgh. I'm not going to say much about it. I'm not a grump, and I do love the arts, but Edinburgh in August is one place I'd rather avoid. If you're going, good luck. www.edinburghfestivals.co.uk |
