Why Take A Self Catering Cottage In Scotland

If you are coming to Scotland from overseas, booking a self catering cottage might not be your first choice when it comes to accommodation. It is easy to find and book cottages though and staying in a Scottish cottage can give you a much more enjoyable holiday than being confined to a small hotel room.

So why should you choose a self catering cottage in Scotland?

1. Cottages have more room

Cottages give you so much more private space than a hotel room enabling you to enjoy your holiday and relax in comfortable surroundings.

2. All facilities are provided

Cottages usually come with all the comforts of home, ironing, laundry facitlities, garden, living room, kitchen crockery and appliances etc. Stay in any other form of accommodation and you'll probably have to pay extra for these

3. Shelter

Lets face it, Scotland's weather can sometimes be rather unpleasant. In times in inclement weather, having an entire house to shelter in helps you ignore what's going on outside. Camping isn't particularly pleasant in this weather, B&B's require you to be out by mid morning until late afternoon and hotels can get expensive if you end up sitting in the bar all day. If you're taking a ski holiday in Scotland there's nowhere nicer than a cosy cottage with a roaring log fire at the end of the day.

4. Midges

The scourge of campers in Scotland in summer, the tiny biting insect can make life miserable. Stay in a cottage though and your holiday can be midge free.

5. Get to know your area

A lot of people spend their holiday here constantly driving and going from place to place, trying to take in the entire country in a week. Hire a cottage in Scotland though and you can relax, get to know more about the area you are in and save the rest of the country for another visit. Holidays taken this way can be much more rewarding.

6. Cost of Cottages vs Hotels

There's no doubt about it, cottages are much cheaper than staying in hotels, especially once you have 4 people or more. It depends on the standard of the cottage you book but you will almost always be cheaper in a cottage.

7. Booking a Cottage is Easy

Through some websites, booking a cottage in Scotland is just as easy as booking a hotel room. On others you are put in direct contact with the cottage owner and make booking arrangements with them. Either way it is just as easy as booking a hotel room. Once you've paid you'll normally be given directions, instructions and any information about collecting or receiving the key for the cottage you have booked.
