Things to do in Oban

Oban is a good sized town in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland. Famous as a holiday and long weekend destination amongst many Scots in the central belt Oban has loads of stuff to do and places to stay.

The first sight that people often want to visit in Oban is McCaig's Folly - a huge round fronted monument built overlooking the town. The views from the top are fantastic but it is a steep walk from the town centre to get to it.

Sitting on Oban harbour wall eating freshly cooked seafood from one of the seafood sellers on the pier is an idyllic thing to do when the weather is right. Langoustine, scallops, crab etc - it's all there and in at least one of the huts is cooked fresh to order.

Oban and Lorn Accommodation The Oban and Lorn Tourism Association website has information on accommodation, places to eat, scenery, landscapes and seascapes and the numerous activities that can be enjoyed in the ancient district of Lorn.

Oban has a cinema to keep you entertained when the weather is grim. There is also a leisure centre only a short walk from the town centre. Ten pin bowling also exists in the town.

Oban distillery has a visitor centre open to the public and is right in the centre of town.

For those who prefer their things to do outside, Oban offers a really exciting golf course, walking and fishing are all nearby the town and cyclists can get a great feel for the area on the many small roads around Oban.

Island hoppers can base themselves in Oban and take advantage of the many ferries that operate from there taking passengers to Mull and beyond.

Oban had many restuarants and pubs in it, some with traditional Scottish music and entertainment.
